Hexagram 20: 觀 Contemplation. Usually the I Ching reading is one way for me to make a tough decision on a game I can’t make my mind up on. This week the I Ching tells me to look closely at the situation, to observe and contemplate deeply; which is pretty much no fucking help at all. So, let’s break it down.
The Seahawks’ level of play in their home stadium is usually drastically better than their play away from Seattle. However, their record at home this year is just 2-3. Last week’s loss to my Redskins who were on a six game losing streak was probably the worst of their losses this year. Their defense, especially against the run, has been their strength all season, but they gave up a 108 yards and a touchdown to rookie 5th round pick Roy Helu in their loss last week. This does not bode well against the Eagles’ second ranked rushing attack.
Despite all their other problems, the Eagles offensive line has been improving throughout the season and should be able to handle Seattle’s defense. Along with their recent struggles against the run, the Seahawks have managed just 20 sacks this year, good for 26th in the league. Michael Vick will miss his 3rd straight game, running back Lesean McCoy is a game time decision after suffering an injury last Sunday, and wide receiver Desean Jackson continues his disappointing contract year, but anyone the Eagles put at their skill positions have to be at least equal to what the Redskins brought to Seattle last weekend.
Furthermore, watching Seahawks quarter Tavaris Jackson last weekend was almost as painful as it probably was for Tavaris actually playing. He is playing injured with his torn pectoral muscle and it was obvious watching the game how much it affected his play. Throw in the fact that the Eagles’ defensive line is one of their few units that has lived up to their preseason hype. They rank 7th in sacks with 30 for the season. They hit Eli Manning 10 times in their win over the Giants two weeks ago and although they only sacked Tom Brady once last week, their constant pressure early in the game was one of the reasons they jumped out to a 10-0 early lead over the heavily favored Patriots.
The more I think about this game, the more I think that the things the Eagles do well will exploit the Seahawks weaknesses while Seattle doesn’t do much well, and what they do decently won’t give them any distinct advantage over Philadelphia. So, I’ll take the Eagles. Thanks again, I Ching. 谢谢你。
