I Ching NFL Picks: Week 12: Part II

For the Part I and the early game picks, click here

4:05 PM EST
Ravens @ Chargers +0.5
Hexagram 35: Progress
One of these teams has gotten progressively better over the course of the season and the other’s has fallen apart after a promising start. The Chargers only two wins since Week 2 have come against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Ravens, meanwhile, have won their last three to take a two game lead in their division. I’ve been skeptical of Baltimore all year, mostly to my own misfortune, but they seem to do just enough every week to get the win. In another pick-em game, I don’t see them coming up short against the Blunder Bolts. That’s right, I said Blunder Bolts.
4:25 PM EST
49ers @ Saints +1.5
Hexagram 46: Arising
New Orleans is another team that is looking stronger and stronger as the season goes on. They have won five out of their last six games and all three at home since starting out 0-4. All signs point to second year quarterback Colin Kaepernick getting the start for San Francisco, and while Harbaugh and crew may think they have a better chance to win it all with a more dynamic player behind center, they will have to take a few inevitable learning lessons along with his higher ceiling. I think this is one such game. I think the Saints will be able to score on the Niners vaunted defense and should be able to jump out to an early lead. This will lead to San Francisco having to turn to the passing game and Kaepernick will struggle in trying to lead his team back from behind.
Rams @ Cardinals -2.5
Hexagram 23: Divergence
The Rams beat their division foe 17-3 in a very convincing manner back in Week 5. The Cardinals were 4-0 coming into that game, but this was a major turning point in their season. Arizona has failed to win another game in five more tries since the loss in St. Louis. They will start their third quarterback in that game, Ryan Lindley, this time around against the Rams. Considering the Rams crushed the Cards when they had their starter Kevin Kolb and were at their hottest, I don’t think they’ll have any problem going to the desert and coming out with a win.
8:20 PM EST
Packers @ Giants -2.5
Hexagram 56: The Wanderer
The Giants and Eli Manning have been in a bit of a funk themselves. Since their dominating 26-3 win at San Francisco, they have snuck out two close division wins and lost their last two to the Steelers and Bengals. In these games, they have given up an average of over 25 points a game over this stretch. They have given up big plays in the passing game all season, particularly their last loss to Cincinnati, and Andy Dalton is a fine quarterback, but certainly no Aaron Rodgers. If New York is unable to contain the big plays of the Green Bay passing attack, I see their losing streak extending to three.

Panthers @ Eagles -2.5
Hexagram 41: Decrease
The Eagles were bad with Michael Vick and Lesean McCoy. They haven’t gotten any better without them. They scored just six points last week against the Redskins defense, who has been one of the most generous in the league all year. The Panther s defense has been better than you would think in recent weeks, and I don’t see this as the week the fortunes of Philly change.
